Zeiträume Bodenstedt

ZeitRäume Bodenstedt is a museum of recent history in the village of Bodenstedt, part of the municipality of Vechelde in Lower Saxony. Housed in a former farmstead built in 1878, it traces everyday life from the late 19th century through to the 1970s. The building still stands on its original plot, a three-sided farmyard typical of northern Germany. The exhibition occupies the main house where a guesthouse once operated until 1934. Visitors walk through rooms kept exactly as they were, furnished with original pieces from different decades. A dance hall shows how forced labourers slept there during the Second World War, later used for refugees after 1945. The displays combine photographs, texts and audio-visual stations to explain how society changed over 140 years. Beyond the main building, the old stables now serve as seminar rooms for school groups. The entire site is recognised by the regional heritage office and the Braunschweig cultural foundation as a place of national significance. No similar site exists in Germany, making it a rare chance to experience recent history in its original setting.
