Bretterspitze

The Bretterspitze is a 2,608-metre-high summit in the Austrian state of Tyrol. It belongs to the Hornbach chain in the Allgäu Alps. The mountain’s broad summit block is made of main dolomite. Two neighbouring peaks in the chain are the Gliegerkarspitze to the west and the Urbeleskarspitze to the northeast. The Bretterspitze stands within the Allgäu Alps range, which stretches across the border between Austria and Germany. The Bretterspitze is worth the journey for walkers seeking a challenging but rewarding climb. From Hinterhornbach a route reaches the Kaufbeurer Haus in about two and a half hours. From the hut the summit can be gained in one and three-quarter hours through the Urbeleskar cirque and up the Northeast Arête. A longer route from Häselgehrn takes four and a half hours, passing through the Hagerletal valley and the Gliegerkar cirque. Both paths join the Northeast Arête before reaching the top. Mountaineers with some climbing experience can ascend the West Arête, graded II. A visitor finds a broad summit block of main dolomite at the top. The routes from Hinterhornbach and Häselgehrn offer waymarked paths through cirques and valleys. The Kaufbeurer Haus provides a stopping point on the ascent from Hinterhornbach. The Gliegerkarspitze and Urbeleskarspitze stand nearby as part of the same chain. The views from the Bretterspitze extend across the Allgäu Alps and into the surrounding valleys.
