Pont Ffosyrhebog round cairn

A prehistoric round cairn stands on a gentle slope in the Darran Valley, Caerphilly County Borough. Built at the close of the Stone Age and start of the Bronze Age, it served as a focus for burial rites and religious ceremonies. The cairn differs from a ring cairn, which has a stone circle around its edge. Cadw recognises the site as a scheduled ancient monument, giving it the reference GM313. The same Neolithic builders raised burial chambers, round barrows, standing stones and hillforts across the landscape. Their stone circles and chambered tombs still mark the hills today. Visitors reach the cairn along a farm track that climbs from the valley floor. The mound itself is grass-covered, about ten metres wide, with a hollow where earlier digs took place. From the cairn the view stretches over the valley and the surrounding hills.
