Burg Salzbühl
Burg Salzbühl stands on a 536-metre rock above the Salzbühlhöhle near Bernstadt in the Alb-Donau district. The spur castle was built in the 12th century by the lords of Bernstadt and destroyed around 1300. Today only faint traces of the ditch and outer ramparts remain. The site offers a clear view over the surrounding Alb landscape. Walkers reach the rock via a short path from Bernstadt. The ruined walls blend with the rocky outcrop, making the remains hard to spot at first glance. Visitors find a quiet hilltop with sparse vegetation and scattered stones. The Salzbühlhöhle lies directly below, a small cave that adds mystery to the place. From the summit the Alb hills stretch away in every direction.
