Pfarrkirche Mendling zu Lassing

The Catholic parish church of St Lawrence stands in the centre of the hamlet of Lassing, part of the market town of Göstling on the Ybbs in Scheibbs district, Lower Austria. It belongs to the deanery of Waidhofen an der Ybbs within the diocese of St Pölten and is listed as a protected monument. The church was built between 1786 and 1788, soon after the parish was founded in 1786. A fire in 1896 damaged the building, which was restored in 1900 and gained its present tower in place of a former ridge turret. The design is a Josephinian-style hall church with a narrower choir and a tower projecting on the left of the west front. Inside, the high altar is a marble columned retable from the second quarter of the 18th century. It originally served as a side altar in Gaming Charterhouse before being moved here in 1784 and enlarged with wooden extensions and gallery doors in 1788. The altarpiece shows St Lawrence and was painted by Josef Kreszler in 1886. The altar also carries statues of Saints Peter and Paul, carved around 1500 and renovated in 1788. An organ with eight stops, built by Franz Strommer around 1899, completes the furnishings.
