Parochial House Großweikersdorf

The Pfarrhof Großweikersdorf stands in the centre of the market town of Großweikersdorf in the Tulln district of Lower Austria. Its address is Jubiläumstraße 1, beside the large Catholic parish church. The building has been listed as a historic monument since the 20th century.
The present structure dates from 1727, built after a fire destroyed the earlier house. In 1949 a second storey was added, giving the seven-bay façade its present proportions. Plain pilasters divide the front into regular sections. In the courtyard a plain granary from the 18th century still stands. A tall baroque dovecote was also erected in 1727, its onion dome rising 8.5 m above the ground.
The dovecote’s dome alone measures 4.4 m high. By 1960 the structure had deteriorated and was removed for careful restoration in Krems. After decades in storage it was returned in 1999 and re-erected in the town barn before being placed back in its original position. Visitors can see the dovecote’s onion dome and the simple granary, both reminders of the town’s past.
