Filialkirche Weißenbach bei Liezen

The Filialkirche Weißenbach bei Liezen is a small Roman Catholic church in the village of Weißenbach in the Steiermark region. It stands in the municipality of Weißenbach bei Liezen, part of the Liezen district. The church is dedicated to the Feast of the Ascension of Christ. The building was completed between 1966 and 1968 under the direction of local parish priest Franz Fastl. It was designed by Kurt Weber-Mzell, an architect from Mariazell, and became the first prefabricated church in the Steiermark. The design follows a simple triangular plan symbolising the Trinity. Inside, the church is lit by four stained-glass windows made by the workshop of Stift Schlierbach. The front window depicts the Ascension, the right shows the Crucifixion, the left the Resurrection, and the rear the Last Judgement. Three of these windows were added in 1993 during a renovation marking the church’s twenty-fifth anniversary. The interior is otherwise plain, focusing attention on the light and colour from the windows.
