Eulenspiegel-Museum

The Eulenspiegel-Museum stands in Mölln’s old town centre, in a half-timbered house built in 1582. It sits opposite the historic town hall on Am Markt, a square lined with gabled merchants’ houses. The building was carefully restored before the museum opened in 1996 as a branch of the Möllner Museum. The collection focuses on local life and traditions rather than grand artworks. Mölln calls itself the Eulenspiegelstadt because the folk hero Till Eulenspiegel died there in 1350. The museum traces how his stories spread after the first printed book appeared in 1510–11. Visitors see how the tales were told in the region and how later writers, painters and sculptors reimagined the trickster. A small television corner, Till-TV, was added in 2009 to show short films about his pranks. Inside, the modest rooms hold prints, drawings and small sculptures of Eulenspiegel. Labels explain each piece’s place in the tradition. Outside, a stone by St Nicolai church marks the spot where he was buried. The museum is a quiet, family-friendly place to learn about a medieval prankster who still shapes the town’s identity.
