Weigelsberg
Weigelsberg is a forested mountain rising to 898 metres in the Weigelsberger Wald, about five kilometres north-east of Viechtach in Bavaria. Its summit stands roughly 1.5 kilometres east of the small hamlet of Weigelsberg, surrounded by spruce and pine. The nearest villages are Drachselsried four kilometres to the north-east, Riesberg 882 metres to the south, Pfaffenzellerhöhe 859 metres to the north and Ruckl 836 metres to the north-east.
The mountain carries a network of forest tracks that allow walkers to reach the top without climbing. At the summit there is a small stone marker showing the highest point, with views across the surrounding ridges and valleys. The Kronberg-Hütte, a mountain hut run by the Viechtach section of the German Alpine Club, sits on the western slopes near Viechtach.
From the hut a footpath leads up through dense conifer woodland to the open summit clearing. On clear days the view stretches as far as the Grosser Arber in the Bohemian Forest. The air is quiet except for the wind in the treetops and the occasional call of a crossbill. The forest road network also serves as a winter ski-trail when snow lies.
