Pleasureland Southport

Adventure Coast Southport stands on the edge of the Irish Sea in the Metropolitan Borough of Sefton. The park began life in 1913 as Pleasureland, a sister site to Blackpool Pleasure Beach. After a long run it closed in 2006 when rising entrance fees drove visitors away. A new management team reopened the park in 2007 under the name Southport Pleasureland. In 2025 the park rebranded once more to Adventure Coast Southport, keeping its century-old tradition of rides and laughter alive. The site has survived many changes yet still draws crowds. Classic rides such as the Cyclone wooden rollercoaster were lost in 2006, but others like the Wildcat coaster returned after being rebuilt. A new indoor rollercoaster called Indy’s Lost World once thrilled guests inside the old Funhouse. Storm, a looping coaster, gave thrills for a season before moving on. Battlefield Live Southport opened next door, letting visitors fire infra-red beams in outdoor combat games. Visitors today find a mix of modern thrills and echoes of the past. The Funhouse once held spinning mirrors and the Social Mixer, though its fate is unclear. A Ferris wheel briefly rose above the skyline before being removed. The park now offers family coasters like The Rocket and a ghost train beside the Grand Canyon dark ride. The Magic Card system has gone, replaced by simple token swipes. Seafront strollers can still spot the old entrance building’s footprint near the rides.
