Burg Schussenried (new pharmacy)

The Burg Schussenried was a medieval castle near the modern Neue Apotheke in Bad Schussenried. It stood at about 570 metres above sea level on the edge of the spa town. The knights of Schussenried built it centuries ago. Today nothing remains of the old walls or towers. The site is marked only by the name Neue Apotheke. Historians know the castle from old records and local studies. The 1986 Heimatkundliche Blätter lists the Burg Schussenried among the castles of the Biberach district. The article gives a brief account of its history and owners. Archaeologists have found no visible traces on the spot. Visitors see a quiet corner of Bad Schussenried where the castle once stood. The Neue Apotheke now occupies the site. A small plaque recalls the lost fortress. The surrounding spa town offers cafés and parks for a short walk. From here the landscape stretches gently towards the Riss valley.
