Schloss Bodman
Schloss Bodman stands above the village church on a rise of about 420 metres in the eastern part of Bodman. The present building is a plain structure in the Weinbrenner style, completed in 1831–32 by Johann Baptist Wehrle. Earlier, in 1757, a first castle had been raised on the site, and in 1760 the Counts of Bodman moved from Espasingen to live here. Emanuel von Seidl enlarged the palace in 1907–09 by adding the south-east and south-west wings. The counts still own and occupy the residence, but the park alone is open to visitors. This landscaped garden dates from the 18th century and follows English ideals of winding paths and open lawns. The family’s history is reflected in the names of local streets such as Graf-von-Bodman-Weg and Schlossstrasse. Visitors walk through the park’s mature trees and grassy clearings. A low stone wall borders the grounds, and benches stand beside the main walkways. The church below the slope and the surrounding vineyards form a quiet backdrop to the scene.
