Theater an der Rott
The Theatre on the Rott stands in Eggenfelden, a town in Lower Bavaria. It is the only theatre owned by a rural district in Germany, run by the Rottal-Inn district council. The building contains a main auditorium with 385 seats and a smaller studio with 66 seats for chamber productions. Summer performances take place on an open-air stage beside the theatre. The theatre aims to serve every generation. Its programme mixes classical plays, modern works and opera galas with dance, musicals and concerts. Children’s shows start at age four, school matinees cater for older pupils, and mobile performances reach senior citizens in care homes. The house has also premiered new works and hosted visiting companies from beyond Bavaria. Inside, the auditorium shows the 1960s style with wood panelling and a star-patterned ceiling. The stage machinery was rebuilt in 1985, adding a larger backstage and a fly-tower. Recent seasons have seen the launch of a youth theatre company and a permanent ensemble of regular and guest artists.
