King's Seat
King’s Seat is a hill in the Sidlaw range, south-east of Perth in Perth and Kinross. It stands 377 metres above the fields near Collace and is classed as a Marilyn, a hill with a drop of at least 150 metres on all sides. To the north-east lies Black Hill and to the south-west the smaller Dunsinane, the hill that Shakespeare named in Macbeth. The hill is one of the principal tops in the Sidlaw range and offers wide views over the Carse of Gowrie and the Firth of Tay. On clear days the Grampian Mountains can be seen to the north-west and the Ochils to the south. The contrast between the cultivated lowlands and the wild summit ridge is striking. A grassy path climbs from the road near Collace and winds through heather and bracken to the summit. The last section is rocky and steep, but the effort is rewarded by a broad stone platform at the top. From here the eye travels across the Firth of Tay to Dundee and beyond.
