Recreation Ground
The Recreation Ground, also known as The EBB Stadium, is a football ground in Aldershot, Hampshire. It has been home to Aldershot Town since 1992 and previously to Aldershot F.C. from 1927 until the club’s collapse in 1992. The ground first hosted league football in 1932 and returned to league status between 2008 and 2013. Its record attendance reached 19,138 for an FA Cup replay against Carlisle United in 1970. The stadium sits on Aldershot High Street and remains the town’s main sporting venue. The ground is worth visiting for its long football history and distinctive architecture. The South Stand, opened in 1929, is the oldest part still in use and retains much of its original character. The East Bank’s unusual barrel-shaped roof is a local landmark, while the North Stand houses the club’s offices and media facilities. Aldershot Town’s plans for redevelopment show the ground’s continuing importance to the community. Matches there have drawn large crowds over many decades, reflecting its place in local sporting life. Visitors find a compact stadium with four main areas. The North Stand combines seating, terracing and the directors’ box, while the all-seated South Stand separates home and away fans. The East Bank offers covered terracing for several thousand supporters, and the High Street End, though usually closed, can be opened for big games. The ground also hosts reserve teams, youth internationals and local cup finals, showing its wider role in Hampshire sport.
