Ealing Studios

Ealing Studios stands on Ealing Green in West London, a site used for filmmaking since 1902. The current sound stages opened in 1931 and remain in continuous use, making it the oldest working studio complex of its kind. Films have been produced there without interruption for more than a century. It became famous for a series of post-war comedies and dramas that defined British cinema. Titles such as Kind Hearts and Coronets, The Lavender Hill Mob and The Ladykillers were made between 1948 and 1955. The BBC ran the studios from 1955 to 1995, producing television dramas and documentaries. More recently, films like The Theory of Everything and Shaun of the Dead have been shot there. Visitors find modern sound stages alongside historic buildings on a compact site. Stage 2 hosted interior scenes for Downton Abbey. The Met Film School London operates on the same grounds. The studios remain a working production base, with crews and equipment visible during active shoots.
