Reiter Alpe

The Reiter Alme is a mountain range in the Berchtesgaden Alps, named after the village of Reit. It straddles the German–Austrian border between Bavaria and Salzburg. The highest peak is Stadelhorn at 2,286 metres. Other notable summits include Großes Häuselhorn and Wagendrischelhorn. The range stretches across rugged terrain with steep ridges and alpine meadows. The area is recognised for its dramatic landscapes and challenging climbs. Großes Häuselhorn offers a demanding route for experienced mountaineers. The lower slopes provide gentler paths for hikers and nature lovers. The border runs along the main ridge, marking the division between the two countries. Views extend to the Hoher Göll and Untersberg massifs on clear days. Visitors find well-marked trails winding through forests and high pastures. The summit of Stadelhorn rewards climbers with panoramic views of the surrounding Alps. Alpine huts such as the Riemannhaus offer rest and refreshments. Wildflowers colour the meadows in summer, while winter brings snow-covered slopes. The contrast between the forested valleys and rocky peaks creates a striking scene.
