Southport Theatre

Southport Theatre once stood in the Metropolitan Borough of Sefton, a modern building that hosted touring shows, opera and children’s productions all year round. It also served as a venue for national and international conferences and exhibitions. The theatre formed part of a larger redevelopment plan for Southport and received a £40 million renovation. Sefton Council owned the building and managed its programme of events. The theatre’s programme included a wide range of performances to suit different audiences. The theatre’s operator, Bliss Space (Southport) Ltd, went into liquidation in May 2019. This led to the closure of the Southport Theatre & Convention Centre. The building no longer functions as a theatre or conference venue. Its former role in the town’s cultural and business life has ended. The site remains empty and unused. Visitors would have found a large auditorium with modern facilities for performances and events. The building included spaces for conferences and exhibitions alongside its theatre programme. Its location made it a central point for arts and business gatherings in Southport. The theatre’s architecture reflected the town’s modern redevelopment plans. Today, the empty building stands as a reminder of the theatre’s past role.
