North Cove Nature Reserve

North Cove Nature Reserve lies east of England between Beccles and Lowestoft in Suffolk. It covers fifteen and a half hectares of wet woodland, grazing marsh, ponds and dykes. The reserve forms part of several protected areas recognised for their wildlife value. These include Barnby Broad and Marshes Site of Special Scientific Interest and the Broadland Ramsar site. It is also listed as a Special Protection Area and a Special Area of Conservation under European directives. The site supports a wide variety of birds and plants. Sparrowhawks, woodcocks, redpolls, siskins and three woodpecker species have been recorded here. Opposite-leaved golden-saxifrage, bog pimpernel and marsh fern grow among the wet ground vegetation. The mosaic of habitats attracts different species throughout the year. A footpath between Barnby and the Angles Way provides the only access to the reserve. Visitors walk beside dykes and through damp woodland to reach the open grazing marsh. The route offers quiet observation points over ponds and marshy clearings.
