Theater am Frankfurter Tor

The Theatre at Frankfurter Tor stands in Berlin’s Friedrichshain district, a short walk from the old Kosmos cinema and the Frankfurter Tor underground station. The building on Karl-Marx-Allee has housed different stages since the mid-20th century. In 2022 Johannes Hallervorden took over the house, renamed it, and opened a small theatre bar for the audience. The programme mixes plays, cabaret, readings and concerts. Well-known performers such as Dagmar Frederic, Matthias Freihof, Heidrun von Goessel, Ute Lubosch, Walter Plathe, Marten Sand and Pierre Sanoussi-Bliss have appeared on its stage. Recent premieres include Corinna und David, Am achten Tag schuf Gott den Rechtsanwalt, Gut gegen Nordwind and Macbeth. Visitors find a 99-seat auditorium with a bar for drinks before the show. The theatre’s foyer and bar create a relaxed space for meeting actors and fellow guests. From the entrance on Karl-Marx-Allee the wide avenue stretches eastwards, linking the building to the city’s centre.
