Museum in der Wegscheid

The Museum in der Wegscheid stands in Trattenbach, a village in the Ternberg valley of Upper Austria. It occupies a protected 19th-century workshop once powered by the Trattenbach stream. The building belonged to the Hack family in 1895 and now houses a local history museum.
The museum focuses on life and work in the Trattenbach valley, especially the craft of making the Trattenbach pocket knife. In 2015 UNESCO recognised Feitel production as Intangible Cultural Heritage. Exhibits include original tools, documents and photographs from the valley’s past.
Five display rooms show the Feitel’s history and the families who made them. Visitors see a working replica of the 1895 forge and grinding shop downstairs. Upstairs, glass cases hold knives with their makers’ marks, a 1660 guild chest and schoolroom objects from the valley.
Opening hours and admission can change with the season. Check before you go: ternberg.at
