Tristkogel

The Tristkogel stands at 2,642 metres in the Glockner range of the Hohe Tauern, in Salzburg. It forms part of a ridge that stretches north from the Grosse Schmiedinger, separating the Mühlbach valley on its eastern side. To its south the ridge rises to the Rettinger (2,640 m) and to its north to the Bambachkopf (2,516 m). Climbers usually start from the Salzburger Hütte, at the lower end of the Kaprun Alpine Centre, and ascend the eastern slopes. The mountain is especially popular for ski tours in winter when its broad, open flanks offer steady gradients. The ridge itself is narrow and rocky in places, providing a straightforward but exposed route to the summit. From the top the view stretches across the Hohe Tauern’s high peaks and down into the Kaprun valley. The ridge walk to the Rettinger and Bambachkopf gives a sense of the wild, high terrain. On clear days the Grossglockner and surrounding summits form a dramatic skyline. The route is marked and requires sure-footedness, but rewards with solitude and sweeping alpine scenery.
