Cultural heritage D-3-6940-0057 in Wiesent (Gemeinde)

The abandoned Schloss Ettersdorf once stood in the village of Ettersdorf, part of the municipality of Wiesent in Bavaria’s Upper Palatinate region. It appears in the local monument list as an archaeological site with medieval and early modern remains. A single farm building from the estate survives today as a protected monument. The estate first appears in records in 1309 under the Truchsess von Heilsberg family. Later owners included the Freiherren Lintello and Lemmen before it passed to the Thurn und Taxis princes in 1812. The French nun Johanna Antida Thouret stayed there for six months in 1796. A fire in 1951 destroyed the main building, which was then demolished. Only the farm building remains of the former two-storey hunting lodge with its steep mansard roof. The site lies quietly among fields near the village centre. Visitors can walk past the modest ruins and imagine the grander structure that once stood there. The surrounding countryside offers gentle hills and quiet lanes.
