Hl. Martin und Wendelin, Bersbuch

The Messkapelle Bersbuch stands in the village centre of Bersbuch, a hamlet within the municipality of Andelsbuch in the Bregenzerwald region of Vorarlberg. It is a small Roman Catholic chapel dedicated to Saints Martin and Wendelin, built beside the old Bregenzerwald road. The building has been protected as a listed monument since the 19th century. First mentioned in 1249 as property of Mehrerau Abbey, the present structure dates from a rebuilding between 1672 and 1687. In 1869 the interior was reorganised and again in 2019 the chapel underwent careful restoration. The modest exterior features a western gable portal marked 1869, a polygonal apse and a small bell turret above the roof. Inside, the flat ceiling is framed by delicate stucco ribs and palmette motifs. The altar, made around 1870, carries statues of Saints Barbara and Joseph and a painting of Saints Nicholas and Martin topped by a copy of the Sixtinische Madonna. A late-19th-century statue of the Immaculate Conception occupies a niche in the choir, while the 1982 wooden reliefs of the Stations of the Cross line the walls.
