Stadthalle Villach

The Stadthalle Villach is a large multi-purpose indoor arena in the city of Villach, southern Austria. Built in 1969, it sits on municipal land and hosts events across sports and culture. Ice sports, inline skating, roller hockey and summer stock sport share the space with concerts, trade fairs and exhibitions. It has staged major sporting fixtures and cultural events. In 1978 the hall held a European welterweight boxing title fight between Josef Pachler and Jørgen Hansen. It co-hosted the 1982 and 1992 Ice Hockey B-World Championships with Klagenfurt. In 2009 the 17th WAKO Kickboxing World Championship drew roughly 600 athletes from 60 countries. A current renovation will add a federal performance centre for women’s ice hockey and a new training hall. Once complete, the updated complex will continue to serve Villach as a busy venue for sport and entertainment.
