Wallfahrtskirche Kollmitzberg
The Catholic parish church dedicated to Saint Ottilie stands high on the Kollmitzberg hill above the village of Kollmitzberg in Ardagger, Lower Austria. It is the only Roman Catholic pilgrimage church in Austria dedicated to Saint Ottilie and belongs to the Diocese of St Pölten. The church has been under Denkmalschutz since the 1990s. The site has been a place of worship since at least the 12th century, with the earliest written record dating to 1260. The church was rebuilt several times between the 12th and 18th centuries, shaped by steady pilgrim traffic. In 1748 a local farming couple donated their farm to build a vicarage nearby so the priest no longer had to climb from Stift Ardagger each day. The church’s west tower has a neo-Baroque spire and simple Gothic louvres. Inside, late-19th-century stained glass shows scenes from Saint Ottilie’s life. The Ottilie altar opposite the south door holds a late-Gothic wooden statue of the saint, carved around 1500 with her emblem of an open Bible and a pair of eyes.
