Stadtbad Dornbirn

The Stadtbad Dornbirn is a modern indoor swimming complex in Dornbirn, a town in the Austrian province of Vorarlberg. It stands on Stadtstraße L190 in the Markt district, replacing the old municipal pool after a two-year rebuild finished in 2005. The building is run by the city’s Sport- und Freizeitbetriebe GmbH. The pool area offers four water zones: a 24.7 by 12.2-metre multi-purpose pool, a 25 by 16.66-metre sports pool, a 9 by 11.7-metre learner pool and a small children’s splash pool. Thrill-seekers can ride a 46-metre tube slide with water jets, lights and sound, or jump from a tower and springboard. Outside the pools there is a sauna landscape, massage rooms and a café. In summer the pool closes for one month while nearby Waldbad Enz takes over. The building’s south side is lined with Japanese cherry trees of the Kanzan variety. The first municipal indoor pool in Vorarlberg opened here in 1969 under Mayor Karl Bohle, built for about 2.2 million euros. The 2004–05 redesign by cukrowicz.nachbaur architects won the State Prize for Architecture in 2008. Since opening, the pool has welcomed more than 5.4 million visitors, peaking at 185,000 in the 2012–13 season.
