St Paul’s Church

St Paul’s Church stands in the Scottish town of Milngavie, East Dunbartonshire, near Glasgow. It is a parish church of the Presbyterian Church of Scotland on the junction of Glasgow Road and Baldernock Road. The present building dates from 1906 and was designed by Leadbetter & Fairley of Edinburgh. The sanctuary is built of red sandstone with late Gothic windows. A planned bell tower was never finished, leaving only its base. The church began in 1788 as the Kilpatrick Relief Church after a break from the Established Church. Early services were held outdoors on Barloch Moor beside the Tannoch Burn. A small church was built on the Barloch Estate and completed in 1799. Later mergers led to the need for a larger building, and the current church opened in 1906. The Duchess of Montrose laid the memorial stone in 1905. Inside, the original sanctuary remains the main worship space. Two transept gables face each side, an unusual feature. Later extensions provide halls and offices for church groups and staff. The church continues to host Sunday services and monthly evening services, some livestreamed. A ministry team led by Lynsey Brennan supports the congregation and community outreach.
