A627(M) motorway

The A627(M) is a short motorway in Greater Manchester linking Chadderton and Rochdale to the M62. It runs for 3.5 miles and opened in 1972. The route begins as a two-lane dual carriageway on the A663 at Chadderton. It turns sharply left and passes west of Royton before reaching a junction with a 1-mile spur. Although signed as the A627(M), some maps show it as the A6138(M). The motorway gains a third lane after the spur junction. It then reaches a roundabout at the M62 junction 20, designed to allow for a future flyover. After crossing the roundabout, the route continues as a dual two-lane carriageway for another mile. It then turns sharply right to end at a crossroads near Rochdale. The A627(M) carries traffic between the towns and the M62 motorway. Its compact size and straightforward design make it a practical link in the region’s road network. The motorway’s junctions and sharp turns reflect its role in connecting local roads to a major route. Drivers use it daily to reach destinations across Greater Manchester.
