Die Wühlmäuse

Die Wühlmäuse is a Berlin cabaret stage and ensemble founded in December 1960 by Dieter Hallervorden with Wilfried Herbst and other actors. The name comes from a mouse that once sat on a piano during rehearsal. After starting in parts of the old Scala building in Schöneberg, the group moved to larger rooms at Theater an der Lietzenburger. In 2000 Dieter Hallervorden bought the former Summit House near Theodor-Heuss-Platz in Westend and turned it into a two-level theatre with 516 seats. The building still carries the name in bright letters above the entrance and on the roof. The stage has long been a favourite stop for touring cabaret artists and comedians. Over the decades performers such as Bruno Jonas, Hagen Rether, Arnulf Rating, Richard Rogler, Simone Solga and Jürgen von der Lippe have appeared there. From 2001 to 2023 the venue hosted the annual rbb Kleinkunstfestival. Since 2006 every second Monday the Mix-Show Lach-Stoff gives both well-known and unknown acts a chance to perform. Inside the theatre the two-level auditorium seats 516 people. The entrance area is marked by a large illuminated sign that repeats the name Die Wühlmäuse and the mouse logo. Above the door the building is labelled Neues Berliner Kabarett-Theater. The stage itself is framed by a simple proscenium, letting the focus stay on the sharp texts and lively performances.
