Neptun-Schwimmhalle

The Neptun-Schwimmhalle is a post-war indoor swimming pool in Rostock’s Hansaviertel district. It stands in Kopernikusstraße 17, surrounded by other sports venues such as the Ostseestadion and the Barnstorfer Wald city park. The building’s red brick and socialist-classicist details echo the architecture of nearby churches. The hall opened in 1955 after three years of construction and quickly became one of Europe’s most modern pools. Since 1956 it has hosted the International Springertag, an annual diving competition that now draws athletes from many nations. The water-polo club HSG Warnemünde trains here and has won numerous titles since 1971. An outdoor pool with a ten-metre diving tower was added in 1958 but closed thirty years later. Inside, visitors find two sports pools—one 25 m long, the other 50 m—plus a learner pool. A separate diving pool has a ten-metre platform. The building also houses a cafeteria, a hairdresser and a beauty studio.
