Kath. Pfarrkirche hl. Martin, Strengen

The Catholic parish church of St Martin stands in Strengen, a village in the Landeck district of Tyrol. The church is a protected monument and belongs to the Diocese of Innsbruck. It is dedicated to Saint Martin of Tours and has served the community since the 15th century. The church’s present form dates from a major rebuilding in the mid-18th century, when Paul Glatzl designed the Baroque interior. Later alterations by Eduard Ladner in the 1970s added a western porch and gallery. Recent renovations have restored the stone floor and introduced a central aisle and new confessional. Inside, the four-bay nave and single-bay choir are covered by richly decorated barrel vaults. Johann Kärle’s ceiling paintings from 1874 depict scenes of the Trinity, the Coronation of Mary and the Redemption. The church’s furnishings include a striking Baroque carved group of the Holy Trinity and a notable relief of Saint Martin dividing his cloak. The 1866 organ by Josef Sies and Franz Seelos’s 1958 Christmas crib add to the interior’s character.
