Monmouthshire Show

The Monmouthshire Show is an annual one-day agricultural event held in Monmouth, Wales. It takes place on the third Sunday in August and is the largest one-day agricultural show in Wales. The show has its roots in the 1790s when Monmouth’s agricultural society organised ploughing matches. In 1857, the eighth Duke of Beaufort and John Rolls provided funds to start the Monmouth Cattle Show. The first cattle show was staged later that year. The show has moved venues several times since its inception. It was held in Chippenham Fields from 1876 until the First World War. After restarting in 1919, it was renamed the Monmouthshire County Show and held at Vauxhall Fields from 1946 to 2006. The show moved to a new site on Redbrook Road in 2007. It has occasionally been cancelled due to outbreaks of foot and mouth disease or the COVID-19 pandemic. Visitors to the Monmouthshire Show find a lively mix of livestock competitions, trade stands and family entertainment. The event showcases the best of Welsh agriculture with cattle, sheep and poultry classes. There are also displays of horticulture, crafts and local food. The grounds on Redbrook Road provide ample space for these activities. Families can enjoy fairground rides and children’s activities. The show remains a key date in Monmouth’s calendar, drawing crowds from across Wales.
