Kew Gardens station

Kew Gardens station stands in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames. It is a Grade II-listed interchange on the District line and the Mildmay line. The station opened in 1869 and is managed by London Underground. It lies midway between Gunnersbury and Richmond stations. A Grade II-listed footbridge stands next to the station on the southern side. The station is the nearest to Kew Gardens and The National Archives. The main entrance is at the junction of Station Parade, Station Avenue and Station Approach. There is also a wheelchair-accessible entrance on North Road. The two entrances are connected by a pedestrian subway. The station buildings are fine examples of mid-Victorian railway architecture. The station has a pub attached to it, which reopened in 2013 as The Tap on the Line. Platform 2 is at ground level while Platform 1 is reached by a short set of steps. The footbridge was built in 1912 and is a rare reinforced concrete structure. It was restored in 2004 with a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund. The station appeared in the BBC comedy drama Love Soup in 2008.
