Pfarrkirche Laßnitzhöhe

The Pfarrkirche Laßnitzhöhe stands in the small community of Laßnitzhöhe, a few kilometres east of Graz in the rolling hills of Styria. It is a modern Roman Catholic parish church dedicated to the Nativity of Christ. The building occupies a site beside the main square, donated by local benefactor Eduard Miglitz. Architect Robert Kramreiter designed the church, and its foundation stone was laid in August 1961. Within less than two years the church was completed and consecrated by parish priest Johannes Kogler in July 1963. In 1972 it became a fully independent parish under the name Römisch-Katholische Pfarre Christi Geburt in Laßnitzhöhe. The church is notable for its carefully chosen furnishings and artworks. The Christ-König-Cross above the altar was created by Othmar Klemencic, while stained-glass windows in the baptistery are by Rudolf Szyszkowitz. Leopold Birstinger and Adolf Osterider designed the main stained-glass windows, and the Stations of the Cross were painted by Prof. Schmidsfelden. The organ was installed in 1971 by Walcker-Mayer. All these works contribute to the building’s protected status as a cultural monument. Inside, visitors find a bright, spacious nave with clean lines and uncluttered surfaces. The altar area is dominated by the large cross, and the baptistery’s coloured glass throws shifting patterns of light onto the walls. The Stations of the Cross line the side aisles, and the modern organ stands at the rear. The church’s calm atmosphere and thoughtful design make it a place for quiet reflection as well as worship.
