The Roman Catholic parish church of Gutenbrunn-Heiligenkreuz stands in the Heiligenkreuz hamlet, part of the town of Herzogenburg in Lower Austria. It belongs to the deanery of Herzogenburg in the diocese of St Pölten and is dedicated to the Assumption of Mary. The church is protected as a listed monument.
Built between 1755 and 1758 as a school church for a planned seminary, the late Baroque building was likely designed by Mathias Gerl and Paul Trientl for Auxiliary Bishop Anton Marxer. The design reflects the Salzburg Kollegienkirche by Johann Bernhard Fischer von Erlach and the Vorarlberg Münster scheme. In 1758 the parish seat moved here from the old Hedwig church in Gutenbrunn.
The church forms part of Heiligenkreuz Castle, its long nave flanked by a double-walled frame that softens at the transept. The eastern gable has a high plinth, pilasters, two niches with ornamental urns, and a triangular pediment topped by statues of Faith, Hope, Charity and volutes. Inside, a central domed cross vaults the crossing, with short barrel-vaulted transepts and long nave bays. Franz Anton Maulbertsch painted the ceiling in 1758, featuring scenes such as the Assumption, the Veil of Veronica, the Finding of the Cross and the Four Fathers of the Church. The high altar, designed by Johann Ferdinand Hetzendorf von Hohenberg, holds a late Gothic Madonna and a richly detailed tabernacle surmounted by a large crucifix.
