Barghe

Barghe is a small town in the Val Sabbia valley, about 20 kilometres north-east of Brescia in Lombardy. The Chiese river flows through the village, giving the area a gentle, rural feel. The surrounding hills rise steeply, covered in vineyards and olive groves. The town sits on the old route from Brescia to Calavino, now a provincial road. It belongs to the Comunità Montana della Valle Sabbia, a mountain community that organises local services. The town is little known outside Italy, but it has a quiet charm worth discovering. The 1987 guide to Lombardy by Anna Ferrari-Bravo and Paola Colombini mentions Barghe among the lesser-known places in the region. The Touring Club Italiano also recognises it in its 1999 guide to the area. These guides highlight the town’s peaceful setting and traditional way of life. Visitors find a quiet Italian village with narrow streets and old stone houses. The Chiese river provides a pleasant walk along its banks. Nearby hills offer short hikes with views over the valley. The olive groves and vineyards show the local agriculture. The town has a small central square with a café and a few shops. It is a place to experience rural Lombardy away from tourist crowds.
