Burgstall Sternegg
The Burgstall Sternegg stands on a rocky spur 580 metres above the Leitzach valley, near the hamlet of Sterneck in the Feldkirchen-Westerham municipality. It was once a medieval spur castle, now reduced to foundations and earthworks. The Bavarian State Office for Monument Conservation lists the site as a medieval archaeological monument. The castle’s name first appears in 1629, when it was recorded as the Sternegg site. In the 19th century a farmhouse was built on the old foundations and remains in private hands today. The surrounding woodland and meadows offer quiet walks along the ridge. Visitors reach the spur by a farm track from Sterneck. The farmhouse sits among mature linden trees, its walls partly incorporating medieval masonry. From the edge of the spur there are long views over the Leitzach valley and the Bavarian foothills. The site is best visited in late summer when the meadows are in flower and the light softens the outlines of the old earthworks.
