Eulenbrunnen

The Eulenbrunnen stands in the Friesenpark, a green space in the Friesenheim district of Ludwigshafen. Built in the early 20th century, it is a shallow stone basin with stylised owls cast in the same material. Peter Gelbert, a local sculptor, completed the work on 1 December 1913 after months of modelling and casting. The monument is small but distinctive, marking the park’s centre with four owl figures around the rim. Its design reflects the craftsmanship of the period, blending practical waterworks with decorative art. The owls’ simple, rounded forms give the fountain a quiet charm that contrasts with the park’s open lawns and mature trees. Visitors find a circular basin surrounded by benches where they can sit and watch the water gently spill over the edges. The Friesenpark itself offers wide paths for walking and shaded corners for resting. From the Eulenbrunnen, paths lead to flowerbeds and a children’s play area, making it a calm spot in an urban district.
