Strandbad Wendenschloß

The Seebad Wendenschloss is a public open-air swimming pool in the Köpenick district of south-eastern Berlin. It sits on the northern shore of the Langen See, a slow-moving lake fed by the Dahme river, within the city forest. Across the water lies the regatta course used by Berlin-Grünau, a reminder of the area’s long sporting tradition. The pool opened in 1915 and remains one of the city’s oldest bathing sites. It is run by the Berliner Bäder-Betriebe and a local tenant family. Water tests have repeatedly shown good to excellent quality, with 80 cm visibility recorded in 2011. The sandy beach stretches for about 100 metres and is backed by modern sanitary blocks installed in 2011. Visitors find a 2000 m² sand beach with a diving platform and a separate shallow area for non-swimmers. Rowing and pedal boats can be hired, and there are beach volleyball, table tennis, badminton and chess facilities. Two sculptures by Erwin Damerow and Walter Lerche stand among the pines. A lakeside path leads south-east past the Waldgaststätte Schmetterlingshorst to the Krampenburg peninsula.
