Mòruisg
Mòruisg is a mountain in the Highland council area, standing 10 kilometres south west of Achnasheen. It reaches 928 metres and is the easiest of the Glen Carron Munros to reach, lying just three kilometres from the A890 road. The name means ‘Big Water’ in Scottish Gaelic, though only two small lochs lie in its northern corries. The mountain has a long, steep-sided shape with a flat summit plateau marked by many small bumps and cairns. Its slopes fall sharply to Glen Carron on the north and west, while the south side drops precipitously into the Allt a’ Chonais valley. The mountain is often described as unremarkable by guidebook writers, yet it offers good winter routes in its northern and southern corries. Loch Cnoc na Mointeich and Loch Coireag nan Mang lie in the northern corrie of Corrie na Glas-lic. A circular walk linking Mòruisg with the nearby Sgùrr nan Ceannaichean became popular after the latter gained Munro status in 1981. The route follows the rim of Coire Toll nan Bian, a fine corrie between the two peaks. Though Sgùrr nan Ceannaichean has since been reclassified, the walk remains a favoured route for Munro baggers. From the summit, the views extend over remote mountains north of Loch Monar and the rest of the Glen Carron range to the west. The flat plateau can make the highest point hard to spot, especially in mist. The mountain’s northern corries overlook featureless moorland that slopes down towards Achnasheen. To the east, the plateau undulates over several minor tops before ending at Càrn Gorm, marked by an OS trig point. The steep climb from the A890 road crosses the River Carron and ascends almost 800 metres through heather and scree.
