Sgùrr Ghiubhsachain

Sgùrr Ghiubhsachain is a mountain in the Lochaber area of the Scottish Highlands. It stands south of Glenfinnan and east of Loch Shiel, forming the highest point in its group. The slopes are steep and rugged on all sides, with no paths crossing them. The nearest public road is some distance away, yet access from the Fort William to Mallaig road is straightforward. Even in summer, the summit can be reached without meeting other walkers. The mountain offers two main routes from the Callop car park beside the A830. One follows the north ridge from Guesachan cottage, passing a subsidiary summit at about 820 metres before reaching the main top marked by a large cairn. The other route climbs via Cona Glen and a 600-metre col, avoiding steep slabs on the final approach. Both paths demand careful navigation and some scrambling. The surrounding landscape includes Loch Shiel’s shoreline and the Allt na Cruaiche burn. Nearby Sgorr Craobh a’Chaorainn provides an extra challenge for Corbett and Marilyn baggers. The route offers views across Glenfinnan and the wider Lochaber hills, with few signs of modern development. The sense of solitude remains strong even on fine days.
