Krumme Steyrling

The Krumme Steyrling is a clear, fast-flowing river in the hills of Upper Austria. It rises in the Sengsengebirge near Windischgarsten and winds north-west through a quiet valley to join the Steyr at Molln. The river passes through meadows and wooded slopes where few people live. Fishermen prize the Krumme Steyrling for its trout and grayling. The clean water, rated class I–II, also fills fish farms and drives small hydro plants run by local firms. A spring called Maulaufloch gushes beside the river, its flow changing with the seasons. Several smaller streams feed the main channel, adding to the lively water. Visitors find shaded paths along the banks and clear pools for swimming. The valley stays cool even in summer, with only the sound of water and birds. From time to time a dipper or kingfisher flashes past. The whole scene is simple and unspoilt, a place where the river still rules the land.
