Cona' Mheall

Cona’ Mheall is a mountain in the Northwest Highlands of Scotland. It stands near Ullapool in Wester Ross and reaches 978 metres. The mountain forms part of the Beinn Dearg range and takes the shape of a rocky ridge. It lies to the east of the main Beinn Dearg summit and provides wide views from its top. The usual climb joins the Beinn Dearg route, though a harder start can be taken from the A835 to the south. The mountain is worth the journey for its clear summit views and its place in the rugged landscape. Its rocky ridge offers a fine contrast to the surrounding terrain. Walkers often pair the ascent with Beinn Dearg to make the most of the high ground. The southern route from the A835 is less used but adds variety to the climb. Its height and position give it a strong presence in the area. On the summit a narrow ridge leads to the highest point. The rocks are rough underfoot and the drop either side is steep. From the top the hills of Coigach stretch away to the west. To the east the peaks of the Fisherfield Forest can be seen on clear days. The ridge itself is the main attraction, offering scrambling moves and steady progress.
