Schönecker Burg

The Schönecker Burg stands in the small town of Münstermaifeld in the Mayen-Koblenz district of Rhineland-Palatinate. It is a late medieval residential tower, also known as the Schönecker Turm or Eltzer Hof, with three storeys and a simple Renaissance oriel on the second floor. A pitched roof caps the structure, giving it a compact and solid appearance. The tower’s ownership history remains unclear, though the von Schöneck family, ministerials of the Electorate of Trier, likely built it and gave it their name. Later, the lords of Eltz held the property around 1654, followed by the von Ufflingen family. In the 16th century, a Renaissance oriel was added to the street-facing side, showing the building’s evolving architectural tastes. Visitors find a quiet, three-storey stone tower set within the town’s fabric. The oriel juts out on the second floor, offering a small but distinctive detail against the plain walls. Above, the steep roof shelters the upper rooms, while the surrounding streets of Münstermaifeld lead past half-timbered houses and quiet squares. The tower stands as a modest reminder of the region’s medieval past, quietly anchored in everyday life.
