The Schlossberg earthwork stands on a low ridge above the Wolfsteiner Ohe, 140 m south of Empertsreut village in Perlesreut. It began as a small hilltop fort in the late 11th century and later became a small courtly residence. The site is now a flattened mound, but the original layout can still be traced. The remains show a narrow courtyard 60 m long and 20 m wide, cut off by a shallow neck ditch. The inner platform rises 1.5 m above the ditch and then drops 1.5 m to the outer edge. No walls or foundations survive above ground, so the earthworks are the only visible traces of what once stood here. Visitors walk a quiet forest path to the ridge and follow faint earthworks around the perimeter. The view stretches across the valley to the surrounding hills. There are no buildings or signs, just grass and a few scattered stones marking the vanished castle. The silence and the shape of the ground are the main reminders of its past.
