Gracefield Arts Centre

Gracefield Arts Centre stands in Dumfries, a town in Dumfries and Galloway. The main building was once a private house called Gracefield, bought in 1951 by local people who raised funds to turn it into an art gallery. The building itself is a Category B listed structure, recognised for its architectural importance. Inside, the gallery holds a permanent collection of more than 600 Scottish paintings. These include works by well-known groups such as the Scottish Colourists and the Glasgow Boys. Paintings from the Kirkcudbright School and the Edinburgh School are also part of the collection. The gallery is notable for featuring contemporary Scottish artists alongside historic names. Works by Joan Eardley and Andy Goldsworthy are included in the collection. Changing exhibitions bring in regional, national and international artists and craftmakers. These shows keep the gallery’s displays fresh and varied throughout the year.
