Pfarrkirche hl. Achatius, Ramingstein

The Roman Catholic parish church of Ramingstein stands on the Kirchberg above the village in the Tamsweg district of Salzburg. It belongs to the Tamsweg deanery in the Archdiocese of Salzburg and is listed as a protected monument. The church is dedicated to Saint Achatius and overlooks the settlement below. The building dates back to 1366, with major expansions in 1688 and a complete rebuild between 1890 and 1894 under architect Jakob Ceconi. Fires in 1852 and 1854 damaged the structure, and restorations followed in 1949 and again in 1981–82. The parish itself was established in 1831, marking its long presence in the region. The church’s exterior features a neogothic west front with stepped buttresses and a pointed-arch portal under a hipped roof. Inside, a five-bay nave rises under a net-ribbed vault with painted foliage decoration. The high altar, crafted by Johann Ripper, Johannes Piger and Andreas Doser, shows Saint Achatius flanked by Saints Peter and Paul. The tower to the north has unadorned walls, louvred openings and a steep spire. A two-storey west gallery and surviving original glass windows add to the interior’s character.
