Ravenscourt Park tube station

Ravenscourt Park station stands beside the busy King Street in Hammersmith, west London. It sits on the District line between Stamford Brook and Hammersmith stations, with the Piccadilly line tracks passing through without stopping. The station takes its name from the nearby public park and lies in fare zone two. Two island platforms serve four tracks, two for the District line and two for the Piccadilly line. The outside tracks carry District line trains while the inner tracks are used by Piccadilly line services that do not call at the station except during engineering works or New Year’s Eve. The station opened in 1873 as Shaftesbury Road on a branch line built by the London and South Western Railway. The District Railway began running trains to Richmond in 1877, and the Piccadilly line started passing through in 1932. London Assembly member Murad Qureshi has called for Piccadilly line trains to stop regularly. The platforms were raised after a passenger accident in 1878 and later rebuilt for electric services in the early 20th century. Visitors find two island platforms reached only by steps, with four tracks grouped by direction. The platforms are numbered from south to north for westbound and eastbound District and Piccadilly lines. The Piccadilly line platforms remain unused but are kept in working order. To the east, remains of the old viaduct still stand between the eastbound tracks. Buses along King Street connect the station to surrounding areas.
