Devons Road

Devons Road station stands in Bromley-by-Bow, on the Docklands Light Railway’s Stratford–Poplar branch. It sits between Langdon Park and Bow Church stations, with trains continuing to Canary Wharf and Lewisham. Opened in 1987, it is one of the few stations to keep its original 1980s design. The line itself began as a freight route in 1852, later carrying passengers until 1944. The North London Railway once ran goods depots and engine sheds nearby. The station is worth the journey for its preserved architecture and frequent services. Trains run every few minutes to Stratford and Canary Wharf, with extra peak-hour departures. The area around the station has about 18,700 residents in 6,400 homes. Two bus routes, 108 and 323, stop close by. The station’s blue canopies and lifts make it accessible for all visitors. A visitor finds two side platforms under half-cylindrical glazed canopies. The platforms were extended to handle longer trains in the 2000s. Original staircases were replaced, but the station’s character remains. The surrounding streets are mostly residential, with terraced houses and small shops. From here, the Docklands skyline is a short ride away.
